Middletown, DE – Although the storm charged in at the last minute, everyone made it through the round dry. 50 players teed it up on Saturday, May 12, 2018 for round one at Back Creek Golf Club as the Philadelphia Junior Tour made its way down south for the year’s first two-day Junior Golf Scoreboard ranked event. The 6,286/5,731-yard layout features native grass lined fairways and hazards that present a challenge for players of all skill levels.
In the Boys 16-18 Division, Frankie Markiewicz (Middletown, DE) and Jaden Weisman (Malvern, PA) carded rounds of 71 (E) to take the first round lead. Markiewicz and Weisman both highlighted their rounds with eagles, on No. 11 and 7 respectively. Thomas Butler (Telford, PA) holds down third place with a round of 72 (+1). Butler carded three birdies during his round.
Jolo Timothy Magcalayo (Sta. Rosa, NJ) fired the low round of the day with a round of 69 (-2) in the Boys 13-15 Division. Magcalayo is going into round two with the Overall Boys 13-18 lead. Magcalayo recorded five birdies during round one. Win Thomas (Unionville, PA) finds himself in second place with a round of 75 (+4). Thomas had two birdies today, one on each side. Jake Maddaloni (Newtown Square, PA) and Jacob Sokalsky (Garnet Valley, PA) sit in third place with rounds of 76 (+5).
In the Girls 16-18 Division, Jona Angela Magcalayo has the round one lead with a 77 (+6). Magcalayo made a birdie on No. 8. Helen Shaw (Harleysville, PA) is in second place with a round of 104 (+33). Shaw made par on both par-3’s on the back side.
Riley Mulhern (Downingtown, PA) is the leader in the Girls 13-15 Division. Mulhern recorded two pars during her round.
Rhianna Gooneratne (Plymouth Meeting, PA) will take the lead heading into round two with a 42 (+7). Gooneratne had a strong finish to her round with a par on No. 9. Sitting in second place with a round of 44 (+9) was Mason Tucker (York, PA). Tucker also had a strong finish to his round with a par on No. 9. Rounding out the top three was Reed Krosse (York, PA) with a round of 47(+12).
